Sometimes your birth is the one you are supposed to have. Lena is one of those people who could do anything, so the universe presented her with a unique challenge. Almost 37 weeks pregnant she had an accident at her baby shower ending up with an emergency hospital visit and a seriously torn Achilles tendon. Two days later, her water broke and she went into labor. Mobility was a challenge but not a deterrent. With someone holding up her new leg cast and the rest of her support team pretzeled around her in a childbirth version of Twister, Lena went ahead to deliver her baby on her own bed, in two and half hours. She was determined, educated, and able to improvise in a demanding situation.
As she picked up her daughter (above photo), and still a bit reeling from the pace of all that had happened, she asked her baby, "who are you?" I had to get to the birth fast so I told the cab driver I would name the baby after him if he got me there on time to help catch her, but Lena decided called her daughter Juniper instead. It’s a beautiful name for a girl who will always be able to find inspiration in her unstoppable mother.
Thanks Lena, for letting us share.
